Painting Exhibition In Memoriam Prof. PhD Cezar Atodiresei

January 31 - February 14, 2025
Art House – Ground Floor, 16 Biserica Enei Street, Bucharest

The exhibition revealed diverse artistic concepts, conveyed ideas, stylistic categories, compositional approaches, and technical solutions. It reflected in its essence a balanced yet powerful interaction between distinct artistic personalities, united by their commitment to authenticity. The artworks invite reflection and establish connections that transcend time and space.

Three diptychs of mine were displayed, forming the body of work for my Bachelor's Degree graduation, titled “White. Texture. Ascension. Transmutation.”. Conceived as a cohesive visual system, they explore the three fundamental alchemical stages — Nigredo, Albedo, and Rubedo — translated into a plastic language rooted in symbolic imagery and material transformation.

Each diptych engages with a distinct phase of this process: from dissolution and obscurity, to purification and emergence, and finally toward completion and integration. Drawing from the visual vocabulary of alchemical symbolism, the works unfold through layered textures, controlled tensions, and subtle shifts in surface, allowing meaning to arise not as a fixed narrative, but as a gradual process of becoming.

Through this approach, the series reflects on transformation as both a material and inner experience, where fragmentation, refinement, and synthesis coexist. The works do not illustrate alchemy, but rather embody its principles, inviting a contemplative encounter with the dynamics of change, ascension, and transmutation.

During the opening, the volume “Cezar Atodiresei. Desen, pictură, obiect / Drawing, Painting, Object” was presented, authored by Silvia Stoica and published by UNARTE Publishing House, Bucharest, in 2024. The Constanța County Council funded this editorial project, with support from the Constanța Art Museum.

This exhibition paid tribute to the painter and professor Cezar Atodiresei (1954–2022), commemorating three years since his passing. Based on the concept of the master-disciple relationship, the exhibition featured consistent and profound paintings from Cezar Atodiresei’s late synthetic period, found in a moving and compelling dialogue with works by his former students. Some of these works were created under his guidance, as part of their graduation projects.
