The National Salon of Contemporary Art Exhibition (SNAC)
15 October- 15 November 2024
Organized by the Romanian Fine Artists' Union (UAP) under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, SNAC is widely regarded as a hallmark event within the national visual arts landscape.
The 6th edition of the National Salon of Contemporary Art (SNAC) took place from October 15 to November 15, 2024, across a network of galleries and museums in Bucharest, featuring both national and international participation.
The exhibitions within SNAC 2024 open simultaneously in multiple venues across Bucharest, aiming to bring together artists from all UAP branches. This initiative defines a complex cultural context for Romanian contemporary fine arts, mapping out both general trends and local characteristics in the field of visual arts. The official opening will took place on Sunday, October 20, at 4:00 PM, at Combinatul Fondului Plastic.
The theme of this edition, PL@STIC ∞ CONTEMPORARY, carries a seemingly playful tone — derived from the very name of the guild — while integrating a series of analogies specific to the contemporary era. It is a theme that invites diverse artistic approaches, both distinct and interconnected, transposing transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary visual discourses utilized in international contemporary art.
The 2024 theme highlighted the differences and elements of diversity within contemporary plastic discourses, seeking to emphasize the cosmopolitan artistic and generational makeup of Romanian art. At the same time, it identified a structure capable of homogenizing and cataloging common visual and conceptual indicators that grant specificity to Romanian contemporary art. These artistic discourses — characterized by reversible, interchangeable, and fluid structures — cross the boundaries from formal homogeneity to heterogeneity. These conceptual nuclei define a general concept rooted in the interdisciplinarity of contemporary art. Simultaneously, the theme's versatility allows for the exploration of socio-cultural analysis through plastic discourses that address social, political, ecological, and ethical issues specific to the modern world—an acute subject, deeply synchronized with the languages and themes of our time.
The team for this edition was coordinated by Prof. Univ. Dr. Petru Lucaci, President of the Romanian Fine Artists' Union. The curatorial team included: Anca Boeriu, Reka Dup, Mălina Ionescu, Luiza Barcan, Marius Barb, Vasile Fuiorea, Ioan Anghel, Mihai Zgondoiu, Ioana Stelea, Mihai Băncilă, Alexandra Runcan, and Ana Negoiță as General Curator.
